Safer viewing
Is your child viewing unsuitable material?
The majority of material on the Internet is fun, legal and useful, but an Internet search can still return images or information that are unsuitable for children.
This could be pornography, or material that is violent, racist, inaccurate or harmful in some other way. In extreme cases it is possible to access material that is clearly illegal, such as images of child abuse.
Thankfully, there is safety software available that will prevent your children from accessing this type of material. It works by blocking or filtering the material that comes onto your computer. You can also get packages that allow you to monitor what your child is doing on the Internet, although it may be a good idea to discuss this with them first.
Some of this software is free, some may have been included in your PC package, and other packages can be purchased. You can find a comprehensive list of the protection software available at www.getnetwise.org for more info on filtering and monitoring material on your computer visit: www.pin.org.uk/filtering
